The Power of Ideas

What are you doing right now?

Whatever you are doing, please take a few minutes and go and turn on your TV. History is in the making. I was sitting here getting ready to send you my newsletter when a good friend reminded me to turn on the TV.  And I realized that talking about anything else today other than Barack Obama’s journey into our future would be remiss.

As Barack Obama officially takes over the presidency of the United States , I can’t help but want  to shout from the rooftops…

“This is the power of ideas.

This is what happens when we believe.

This is what we can do when we refuse to listen to those who tell us what can’t be done.”

Even the weather in Washington seems to know that this a day like no other.  You can hear the cheers of the crowd as Obama passes through the streets of Washington. In my life, I can’t remember a moment that has given me such hope – where I have seen and heard and believed in such hope from others.

After all, isn’t that what ideas are all about? The hope that things can be different . The hope that from fear and resistance can come courage and progress.

I am not saying that it will be easy.  I am not saying that it will be without cost. Change never is.  But I can say that today, perhaps even more than many other days, I am thrilled to be an eye witness of the power of ideas.

So, here’s my question to you.
What are you doing right now?  And what will you be doing tomorrow because if a black man that most of us had never heard of a few years ago can today become the President of the United States, what is it exactly that you can’t do? Innovation
